Stress, the hectic daily routine or nerves often cause us to accumulate tensions that, in some cases, manifest as pain in the neck and cervical area. To feel better, we can choose to go to a physical therapist. Also from home we can relax this area through a self-massage. It is possible thanks to neck massagers and we have the proof of it in the models that participate in this article. They have a double common denominator. On the one hand, they are prepared to be used with other parts of the body such as the legs, shoulders or back. On the other hand, the massage they apply is based on a technique of Japanese origin called Shiatsu.

What is Shiatsu massage and what is it for?

A Shiatsu massage device is a device equipped with a certain number of 3D massagers (also called nodes) that apply movements –for not very long periods of time– based on the pressure on the area to be treated. In addition, this type of device incorporates various levels of intensity (so we can choose the one that best suits our needs) and a function that also applies heat so that the experience is better.

Neck massagers, which models have we tested?

These are the chosen proposals: Beurer MG151 (8.5), Esseason SNI ( 7.75), Marnur XKMS-412 (8) and Naipo MGS-150D (8.75). The evaluated criteria have been the same ones that we chose for the comparison of foot massagers a few months ago, also based on the Shiatsu technique.

- Ergonomics: the comfort of using the massager during the session.

- Construction: the manufacturing materials, specifically their quality, are important to guarantee their durability.

- Quality of the massage: how is this quality, if the results of the massage are noticeable and release the tension or pain that we accumulate in the neck...

- Performance: if the neck massager complies with what was promised, if the nodes it has perform their function correctly and how the heat function works, among other aspects.

What is the best neck massager? Comparison

We have dedicated 10 days to each of these models. Throughout this time, and on alternate days, we have verified its operation, the benefits it offers and the experience of the massage they apply. Each session has lasted between 15 and 20 minutes, and the massagers have been used at the end of the afternoon.

The neck massager with the highest score was the Naipo MGS-150D model, thanks to its good finishes, comfort of use and experience.

We consider that the quality of its finishes is very good, taking into account its price. On one of its sides are the controls for its handling. Since there are only four of them, you quickly become familiar with them. Next to the on/off button, you have the option to choose between three types of speeds (low, medium and high) and change the direction of the Shiatsu massage nodes that allow self-massage< /b> (right to left and vice versa). Also, there is a button that applies heat so that the feeling of relief and calm is better. This heat is not too noticeable at the beginning of the session, but as the minutes go by it becomes more noticeable. For greater safety, it has protection against overheating. The arms are inserted into a kind of handles, a detail that you end up getting used to and it incorporates an automatic shutdown function after 20 minutes of use.

Beurer MG151 neck massager

Its design follows the aesthetics of the other electric massagers that have been selected, although on this occasion a couple of aspects must be highlighted. The first of these is related to its finishes, since the imitation it makes of leather is very well worked. The second has to do with its armrest: although they all have this feature in common, the that incorporates the Beurer model offers one of the best ergonomics, which means that as the minutes go by they do not feel uncomfortable at any time.

Its eight 3D rotating heads apply a massage that is relaxing. By default, it starts with a low intensity, but it can be changed through the control button that regulates this parameter. Likewise, it is possible to choose whether or not you prefer to apply heat to this massage: comparing results, our experience is that if you apply it, the sensation is slightly more pleasant. In the same way, the march of its heads is selectable. Thus, you can start from left to right and then change direction. All these controls have been packed into a built-in remote control whose buttons feel comfortable and have a good travel.

Marnur XKMS-412 Neck Massager

Like its opponents, this proposal applies the Shiatsu technique. What results does it offer? We have come across a neck and cervical massager that provides an experience that does not disappoint and is better than expected. Logically, there are aspects that can be improved, but if what you are looking for is a product to release tension and feel better without investing a large sum of money, it is an option to consider. From a design point of view, its ergonomics scored well too. As for its materials, synthetic leather and a breathable mesh that surrounds the area where the eight rotation nodes in charge of applying the massage stand out.

As for the rest of its features, it should be noted that it offers what other models in its class do. In this regard, for example, the heat function has been noticed more than in other massagers. There is also no lack of control that helps decide which direction the massage nodes follow or the possibility of selecting the intensity or pressure exerted: there are three possible options and the one we have felt best with has been the intermediate one.

Esseason SNI neck massager

It is the cheapest option in the comparison and shares a car adapter with the Naipo neck massager. It stands out from the rest because instead of incorporating eight nodes (which are responsible for applying the Shiatsu massage) it adds a total of 16. This quantitative leap is reflected in the user experience, being one of the best and one of our favorites, especially when you apply the infrared heat function and combine it with two of its three 'adjustable force modes'; in our case, the one at the highest level became uncomfortable at certain times. The ergonomics have been resolved well, although the quality of its materials, even though they are similar to the rest (there is no lack of synthetic leather or breathable 3D fabric), there are details that can be improved.

As for the rest, its features are similar to other products in its category: bidirectional 3D massage rotation, protection against overheating and a 15-minute timer.
