There are those who seem to be made for each other. And no, this does not always have to be in a romantic sense. Sometimes your soul mate is your best friend, as the case of Sara Carbonero (Toledo, 1984) and Isabel Jiménez (Almería, 1982) demonstrates: when their paths crossed on the set of Informativos Telecinco, they not only became companions , but also, in inseparable friends, comadres (as they are affectionately called) and partners.
Six years ago they embarked on the great fashion adventure of their lives and founded Slowlove, their own firm and a multi-brand website with fashion and lifestyle as the main protagonists. "We worked together, and every day we ended up talking in the dining room that we had to put something together," explains Isabel. "I think the key is that we got along very well, we got along on everything, and we decided to take the plunge," adds Sara.
The project was born with the philosophy of doing things with love and taking care of every detail. Thus, from the beginning, the label's creations with sustainable notes share space at Slow Love with jewelry brands, children's lines and beauty products, all of them chosen with care. And this year the decisive leap has arrived. After a collaboration with Cortefiel, in March they signed their alliance definitively: the Slowlove label became part of the list of brands of the Tendam company and abandoned the exclusivity of online shopping to come to life in the boutiques of the textile giant.
Today we sneak into their universe with a shooting in which they present their collection for next fall/winter (the second as part of the group). The next? It seems that any challenge that is proposed.
Do you remember how you two met?
Isabel: It was exactly 10 years ago, in 2011.
Sara: No one introduced us, it was weird.
I: We met almost live (laughs).
S: There was a lot of connection. Later, I invited her to my birthday, and at that party we realized that we liked her the same. I remember us at six in the morning doing the battle of Furor...
I: I was like, "Oh my gosh..." But it was arriving, meeting his people and thinking: 'That's it, this is going to go well.'
What special moments have you experienced with Slowlove? I: Good, bad... It all started in a super personal way. We measured the boxes at her house and I remember that we would go to the workshops to try to convince the artisans to make us a bag. There is an anecdote in which ELLE has a lot to do... We had planned to launch the project on a specific day, coinciding with the release of the magazine because we had done a répor with you. However, no one realized that at ELLE.ES we would leave a day earlier. So we had to move everything forward. So we were four cats and we spent until the wee hours of the morning getting ready.
S: And there are many special moments. I will always remember the first photo session we did in a big way, with Bernardo Doral. Also, small moments... The new stage has been very exciting. This last year, which has been so difficult, has been good for the brand. I believe that, after storms, the most beautiful things come, and, in this case, it has been like that.
How do you live your new adventure at the hands of Cortefiel?S: Slowloveis something so much ours that seeing a company like Tendam commit to the firm, seeing it grow and also seeing your team evolve is very exciting. We had a lot of connection with the Cortefiel team. I had participated in a campaign with Andrés Velencoso, Isa had also worked with them... There was a link already created, and it was all very easy.
I: Seeing our designs in store, that people can touch them, was a dream.
You are the creative directors of the firm: what inspires you? S: You can see it in our "moodboard". In a color, in a city, in the sea... Also, in a poem, a word...
I: There is a phrase, 'be a poem', that I saw by chance, and I immediately thought: "You have to do something with this." That's kind of the way we have to work. Inspiration is everywhere.
How would you describe the autumn/winter 2021-22 collection? I: I think the concept that best defines it is urban folk. Very "underground", it has a nod to the world of music, closely related to Sara now (she presents 'Que siga el baile', on Radio Marca).
S: It's more of a rocker. In fact, when creating it we visualize ourselves in London...
I: Also, we got some suppliers from Italy to get us an old catalogue, and from there we have rescued some fabrics with beautiful prints.
What about each one of you? I: Many things. Sara and I understand each other very well and Slowlove has a little bit of each of us.
S: We have a similar style, casual but feminine. In addition, the brand proposes a philosophy that represents us a lot: we look at the little things because, in the end, they are the ones that make the difference.
What do you admire about each other? I: Their sincerity. Her sensitivity continues to amaze me. And how he writes: it opens beautifully.
S: His head. He is a super intelligent person, he is a coconut. I also admire his determination, the desire with which he achieves everything he sets out to do, his strength.
You affectionately call each other comadres: is this a way of saying that your friendship goes one step further? I: It's not that we call each other, it's that we really are. She is Hugo's godmother, and that figure is called that. It is something very Andalusian, a way of incorporating the godparents of your children into your family.
S: In fact, my children say that Isa's children are their cousins.
What's the craziest thing you've ever done together? (And that can be counted).
S: We just got a tattoo together with the words life. It has been something very girlish... (laughs).
I: Well, not as little girls, because it means a lot to us.
S: And we have done many things that, of course, cannot be counted.
I: They are not publishable.
How do you see the future? Do you have any dreams to fulfill? I: I don't like to set goals. Until now, life has surprised me, and I prefer it that way.
S: We still have many dreams; if not, bad go.
I: Now the best thing to do is think: "Where do we do the next campaign?"
S: The next one, in Punta Cana, yacht I say so. It's a joke! (Laughter).
