EFE.- Japan will begin accepting applications at the end of July to issue vaccination certificates that can serve residents of the Asian country as travel documents that allow them to avoid quarantines at destination or reduce their duration.

The Japanese government spokesman, Katsunobu Kato, explained today on the public radio and television network NHK that the administration will begin accepting applications from July 25 from those people with the complete vaccination schedule.

Kato added that the Executive is considering the possibility of using these vaccination passports in the domestic sphere, a request made by employers and other business bodies.

The spokesman minister assured that, if its use is approved for economic activities within the archipelago, it will not favor discriminatory treatment or seek to force people to be vaccinated.

The document, which will initially only be issued on paper, will be issued by the municipality in which the person was vaccinated and will include the person's name and passport number, as well as the date of the inoculations.

Japan would thus join the European Union (EU), a territory that has been issuing a vaccination certificate for travel since the beginning of the month, a type of document that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is also possibly considering issuing.

Although its vaccination program has advanced rapidly in recent weeks, Japan is inoculating more slowly than other developed countries in part because its campaign started later and global vaccine shortages, which in recent days are forcing many Japanese municipalities to cancel appointments to DJ.
