Emily Washcovick, host of behind the Review and expert on small business at yelp, shares a look at this week's podcast episode.

Planning a big party can be extremely stressful. As host, it is important to ensure that everyone has fun, from food quality to entertainment.

When that party is for your daughter's 16th birthday, what's at stake is even greater. Teenagers are notoriously hard to impress, so Yelp Cassandra G.'s critique knew she had to have what was best for the party in her daughter's backyard.

He landed at Tempoe Entertainment, a DJ entertainment network, photomatons, lighting teams, photographers and event coordinators based in long Beach, California.

"it was our daughter's 16th birthday party. So I wanted the DJ, and then I wanted a photo booth, too. I Don't remember what it was first, if I was looking first for the photo studio or first for the DJ, but somehow it turned out they were all a one-stop shop, "Cassandra said.

While waiting for great entertainment, after all, that is the main work of a DJ, she was impressed by the additional effort made by DJ Mike and his photomaton assistant who, once they finished setting up their station, collaborated and helped. With other aspects of the party.

"the fact that they could just go in there and get to work on their own without too many instructions from us really took away a lot of stress. We were able to finish what we needed to do and then act as hosts to the party," Cassandra said.

According to Tempoe Entertainment owner Ryan, who also calls himself DJ Tempoe, that will to do whatever it takes to have a big party begins in the recruitment and training process. There is no such thing as "that's not my job" at Tempoe Entertainment DJs.

La comunicación clara siempre es clave

"our photomaton assistants are actually trained to do everything but DJ. Not only are they friendly and cool in what they do with the photo booth, but they're always looking for something they can move on, "Ryan said.

And as any party organizer knows, there's always something to do during an event.

Tempoe Entertainment has really grown in recent years, from a one-man band to sixteen DJ and over 30 employees, as well as partnerships with entertainment providers. Communication is fundamental in this line of work. After all, they are working on important milestones in their clients' lives.

Therefore, the existing communication systems in Tempoe are extensive. Even better, they're fed by reviewers' suggestions. Ryan has worked to implement those ideas in his current business process and feels that he has improved his business.

"we take the reviews very, very seriously," Ryan said. "this is how we see what the customer expects not only from us, but also the finished product. So we value our reviews, like 100%. Some customers will come to you at the end of the event and tell you that you did a great job, but you really try harder when someone takes 15 or 20 minutes of your busy working life and says something positive about you online. "

Positive reviews are the goal of all small businesses, but when your product is as experiential as entertainment, it can be difficult to show your work. Ryan strongly believes in the use of photos and videos to ensure that potential customers know the quality they get from Tempoe Entertainment.

"for the most part, even showing them some samples also helps a lot … yelp is very helpful with that because we can post our photos on yelp and people review them and say,'Hi., you know, I really liked that. I think also a lot of videos really capture the moment, so we have promotional videos for many of our teams, our lighting, our special effects and then, most importantly, our DJ too. That way, they can have an idea of who will be there at their events, even before committing to us for

For Cassandra, leaving reviews in yelp is mainly about making sure small business owners know they are appreciated. He prefers to leave more positive than negative criticism.

"I write reviews when I have a positive experience, if I feel welcome or if I feel that the employees or the owner of the business are kind or do everything possible to make me feel welcome or to please me. I also especially like writing reviews for local businesses and independent businesses because I know it helps them succeed. I feel like it's my little way of doing my part to help the little one. "

Small businesses, especially those that rely more on services such as Tempoe Entertainment, can benefit from Ryan's other key business tactics:
