Avianca is remodeling the cabins of its planes, incorporating 20% more seats that it will put on sale, according to the new tariff model for sizes. This will allow it to offer lower prices, but it will also mean less legroom for its passengers, making it even more similar to low-cost carriers like Viva.
Starting in August, it will start domestic flights with one of those already modified planes. Likewise, the A320 aircraft fleet will be remodeled and will incorporate additional aircraft so that they enter the same process of change within it. The airline estimates that by December 2022 it will have completed the transformation of the cabins.
On the other hand, it will operate temporarily, with cabin configurations different from the current ones, both in number of seats, space and design. While the interior of the planes is homologated, business class travelers may find themselves with a configuration similar to the so-called European executive -blocking the middle seat-.
These travelers will maintain the benefits of this category: access to Avianca Lounges, accrual of miles through LifeMiles, the possibility of having more pieces of luggage, and priority boarding.
“With the incorporation of this fleet and the new configuration of our aircraft, we will continue to provide our customers with more seats at more competitive prices, while we continue to make progress in expanding the route network and a greater offer in the markets. Although in the first phase customers will be able to see different seat configurations, this will be a transition stage while we finish unifying our final designs,” said Francisco Raddatz Cárdenas, Vice President of Fleet at Avianca Holdings.
As reported by REPORTUR.co, in line with the restructuring, the airline Avianca received approval of the commitment letters necessary to carry out the exit financing of the process that follows within Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law, this would be the first step for the future approval of the DIP financing. (Avianca takes the first step to get out of the restructuring).
