Clothing, accessories, creams, toys, zero kilometer products and even paintings. Buying everything at the same point is already possible in Leioa. And it is that the Association of United Merchants of the municipality has reinvented itself and has created a 'pop up store' on Aldapabarrena street. A place that breaks with the classic scheme of the usual store, a space where up to 13 establishments coexist, with various services, through the management of a single person. "Our proposal is to make a multidisciplinary presentation of everything that a neighbor can find in the town," says Arantza Prado, president of the group.

Although, for now, it will only be open for the next two months, Prado points out that the intention is that "it be renewed, expanded and rotated every month". In addition to more traditional items, such as footwear or clothing, the entity has also wanted to give hospitality a leading role, one of the biggest losers after the pandemic. Josu, owner of one of Leioa's taverns, did not want to miss out on being part of this innovative idea with a sample of the prizes for 'pintxos' won and the display of his menus. "What we aspire to is to make the world of the street known, we are in a very divided town, and in the end we will do everything we can to fight to get ahead, without stopping," he says.
But why this idea? Prado emphasizes that "it is a way for citizens to see everything that is coming out of each one's boutique." He also points out that it is a way of transmitting to residents "the passion we have for selling." Among the main objectives are, on the one hand, for businesses to join the society and form part of the activities that are carried out and that in turn join the 'Leioa Bidean' initiative, the home delivery service that « helped many people overcome extreme situations during the hardest months of the health crisis. On the other hand, that the Leiotarras themselves use the 'Leioa Visa' card, a form of payment "that provides discounts on upcoming purchases from neighbors and that makes us more corporate." Along with this, from the organization they emphasize that it is also "an opportunity for business", since "in the end it is like having two premises and at zero cost, something fundamental given the situation in which we are living".
Yolanda Lorite, vice-president of the merchants' association, remarks that "since Leioa is such a dispersed town, there are many people who don't know the shops, and if you pass by here you can have a global vision of what we really have." The ease of purchase is another of the key points of this proposal, since, as stated by Arantza Prado, "we wanted to bring our inhabitants closer to a common space so that they can enter without the obligation to purchase anything, nor conditioned by a saleswoman ». And it is that there is not a person in charge for each business, but it is a single person who manages the different items that are part of the 'pop up store' through continuous communication with the owners. Likewise, for the simple fact of spending in this establishment, each consumer will be able to leave their data to participate in the draw for a Christmas basket. The bazaar will remain open for the next two months, coinciding with the sales season, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The sale of the products is compatible with the bonus campaign that the City Council has re-launched, whereby with a check for 10 euros you will get an extra 5, and for a check of 20 euros you will get an additional 10 bonus.
