At the end of June 2020, Kanye West announced his partnership with the American textile company Gap. As a result of this alliance, the brand's price rose by 21.28% in the first week alone. Now, they have just included another powerful firm that promises to take the world of collaborations to another level.
Kanye West, Gap and Balenciaga are the three firms that come together and take a step beyond the mergers of two firms that have become so frequent in recent times in the world of fashion. It is a trio that combines street style with luxury: high fashion and exclusivity, represented by Balenciaga, consumer fashion by Gap and Yeezy (by Kanye West) as a kind of hybrid of both sectors.
From the collaboration between Gap and Yeezy came a first collection of clothing for men, women and children in which garments such as hoodies, basics, t-shirts and joggers could be found, all very attached to the streetwear aesthetic. However, the new proposal of the tandem now together with Balenciaga is much more ambitious.
Baptized under the name of 'Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga', the collection seeks to offer Balenciaga designs at Gap prices, which means that they will recreate pieces attached to the aesthetics of luxury fashion, at a price much lower than the one that you find in renowned houses.
For many, this alliance has not been a surprise, taking into account the long-standing friendship between Kanye West and Demna Gvasalia, creative director of the firm founded in Spain. The good relationship between the two is evidenced by the fact that West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian are among the best ambassadors for Balenciaga, while Demna is in charge of directing the scenery and merchandising of the rapper's Donda tour.
