There is nothing friendly about the world of pickup truck sales.
While pickup trucks have always played an important role in car sales in the United States, a growing interest in trucks by American consumers has caused a war to break out over who offers the best pickup of all.
Plus, pickup trucks have gone from being work trucks to luxury vehicles that even city drivers are willing to buy for a fortune.
For example, the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado High Country starts at $84,770, while the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and Ram 1500 Limited, all more modest models a few years ago, start at more than $85,000. .
Still, the F-Series pickup truck line remains America's best-selling truck for 42 years in a row.
The lucrative war between manufacturers is a good thing for consumers, because the brands bring better innovations and ideas in their new pickups.
For example, in February of this year GMC and Ram got into a fierce battle to see who would get the first drop-down trunk door.
While the 2019 GMC Sierra was the first to feature a four-way open trunk, Ram and Ford weren't far behind, introducing their own version soon after.
Another event that occurred this year and that showed that brands also know how to play dirty was the scandal that unleashed a series of Chevrolet commercials that argued that their trucks were more reliable than those of the competition, and that caused a threat of lawsuit for part of some manufacturers towards Chevrolet.
According to a recent report by US Today, which took figures from the third quarter 2019 pickup truck sales reports, the F-Series line of pickup trucks continues to lead as the best-selling trucks in the country, despite registering a drop in sales of 4.9% by selling only 580,251 units.
In second place in sales is Ram, with 564,507 units sold, an increase of 14% compared to last quarter.
And in third place is Chevrolet, who thanks to its Silverado increased its sales by 16% by selling 155,428 units.
Japanese pickups from Toyota, Nissan and Honda continue to post strong sales numbers, but have failed to catch up with the top three: Ford, Ram and GMC. See which were the best-selling pickup trucks of 2018.
