Although he looks like a joke, a student was suspended for believing that Nirvana was a clothing brand.
The suspension was not so much because of its musical ignorance -well, in part -, but it had to do with the school clothing code.
The Yeshiva Har Torah is a "modern orthodox" school in Queens, United States.
The educational authorities of the institution decided to suspend an eighth grade student for using a Nirvana shirt without knowing that it was a musical band.
Through its Twitter account, the school published:
"Students cannot wear clothing with the name of any musician or band unless the student can name three of his songs".
In a Twitter thread they reported that the student who said "I thought Nirvana was a clothing brand" was suspended indefinitely.
After criticism on social networks, the school made an invitation to the students to go with the clothing they would like.
“We recognize that this incident has disgusted some members of generation X (…) All are welcome to bring a flannel shirt or some dr.Martens ”, reads in a tweet.
In fact, days after Nirvana's boy, another student was allegedly suspended for not being able to name any Rolling Stones song.
Then the school uploaded a video of the girl by appointing three songs from the British band.
"Progress!" Says the institution.
