SpyDani Michelle, Kendall Jenner's stylist, thinks so
By Liana Satenstein
Yesterday was a big day for The Row. For starters, Jonah Hill, that bearded god with an enviable line, showed off his signature total black look. From afar, that sweater, those pants, and those shoes could have been from any brand that offers quality basics. However, they were from The Row. "Modeling is emotionally complex @zoeisabellakravitz@therow," she captioned the photo. The gorgeous Zoë Kravitz reposted the same image on Instagram, inserting the hashtag @therow right in the middle of the duet. If, as many people speculate, they were both collaborating with the brand on a secret project, there is no doubt that she was also on The Row, but, honestly, I couldn't tell you. My The Row expert friends texted me either “hm”, or “I think so”. One of them jumped with a "haha, I don't know, how difficult... it seems so, but it could be anyone, the length tells me The Row". And he added: "The truth is that it looks like a skirt I have from Aritzia." After communicating by email with the firm, they replied that, indeed, the actress was wearing her clothes. But that of generating doubt is also very typical of the brand.
Shortly after Hill and Kravitz's post, Kendall Jenner went along with the trend. She uploaded a photo wearing a white shirt, T-shirt, skinny leather belt, high-waisted pleated pants, and kitten-heeled strappy sandals and commented below, “Top down part 2.” The first part was in November, when Jenner appeared completely in black and wrote: "The Row from top to bottom."

That The Row is creeping into celebrity looks is almost an act of poetic justice in the world of high-flying street style. It's not that popular characters are discovering the brand now, but that it's finally hitting the headlines and seeing more and more celebs being chased by paparazzi. Hill has long won us over with his passion for tye-dye and bucket hats, but he's also been a fan of The Row for years. Jenner has never been quite as extravagant as Hill, but we've seen her more than once in skintight, spaghetti-strap dresses and 2000s-style bandeau tops. sophisticated the look of his sister Kourtney Kardashian. Back in February, Chrissy Teigen—who adores a floral dress—posted a photo of herself posing next to a painting, dressed in a black coat, white turtleneck, black mules, and a massive mahogany bag. The roomy accessory was labeled “The Row” and finished off her businesswoman ensemble perfectly (she has also carried other totes from the brand since 2016).

Of course anyone, whatever their style, can wear it one day if they fancy a pair of black pants and a matching jumper. But what's exceptional about The Row is that it has always known very well how to get away from the fanfare and obsess the world of art and fashion at the same time. His image does not attract attention, but his name does. It is expensive, of quality and behind it are the elusive Olsen sisters. The firm puts into practice in a fashion key what Roosevelt said about "speak softly but carry a big stick", and that would clash in principle with certain things such as Instagram labels. Still, here we are.
Okay, the concept is strange to us when it comes to The Row –the label that whispers wealth about the superstar of the moment–, but it also serves us a lot to rest our eyes for a while. The usual thing is that celebrities covet the biggest and most colorful items, the rarest, those that have just been released and are sure to impress at first sight. Such waste can end up being exhausting and even repetitive. We have seen Kim Kardashian, one of the current queens of street style, with never-before-seen Yeezy garments and endless Birkin bags. To Bella Hadid with bags and jumpsuits covered in logos. We have seen these stars shine with everything, except, perhaps, the minimalism that The Row offers us.

For Michelle and Jenner, that minimalism equals repose. “Kendall and I always talk about finding a specific vibe before trying on the clothes, she tells me her vision, and then I choose the clothes to bring it to life. Once together, we share ideas to build the final look, but everything stems from what she proposes”, says Michelle. “Right now, she's going for a more minimalist look, and The Row was one of the options to implement that,” continues Michelle: “As a stylist, we searched from Los Angeles to Japan to discover new brands, smaller labels, designers young people, and we are incorporating all those elements to create an image," he says. "The Row is like a club that has everything in one place, but they have to let you in. Now that it's so funky, streetwear and vintage, it really refreshes a timeless, sophisticated and minimalist look." Of course: although anyone can get a minimalist look, not everyone can afford to be based on garments from The Row, whose prices are insanely high Plus: the “you already know whose it is” thing has always been an incredibly powerful style weapon.
