To avoid the accelerated wear of their uniforms, soldiers from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) must invest part of their salary to buy a dye and dye the clothes they wear to carry out their work themselves, due to the austerity policy.
The soldiers were instructed to acquire an ultramarine green dye, number 667, from the Mariposa brand, at an approximate cost of 30 pesos.
The objective of this measure is that the uniforms of the military elements remain usable for the next nine months, in addition to "raising the morale of the elements."
Reporter Jorge Alejandro Medellín shared a circular from the website Estadomayor.mx, identified as a military information and national security blog, in which this information is read.
On May 17, Carlos Cesar Gómez López, General of the Infantry Arms, sent a letter to the commander of the First Military Region of the Country (I RM), General Juan Arturo Cordero Gómez, to inform him of a possible solution to the problem of worn uniforms.
The text mentions that these measures are the response to the comprehensive policy of austerity and eradication of corruption, through the exercise with "honesty and transparency" of the resources assigned to Sedena.
Gómez López indicated that the operational activities carried out by the troops, coupled with adverse weather conditions, cause the uniforms to wear out faster than normal.
“The permanent observation and attention of society and the media to the activities carried out by the
Mexican Army, where military personnel constantly appear in reports wearing faded uniforms, is detrimental to the institutional image”, he mentions in the document.
To counteract this situation, the Sedena wants its elements to hand-dye the jungle-type campaign uniforms made of pixelated ripstop fabric, by means of a dye tablet that provides a color that resembles that of a new uniform.
Instructions are provided in the trade for servicemen to successfully dye their uniform.
-One, verify that the envelope of the product with which the uniform is going to be dyed is of the brand Mariposa color ultramarine green 667
-Two, a complete envelope of the ultramarine green butterfly brand 667 dissolves in a container with half a liter of boiling water
-Three, in a second container enough boiling water is placed to completely cover the uniform (trousers and jacket) and half a liter of water is added where the pill was dissolved
-Four, pour the half liter of boiling water with the dye into the second container
After performing these steps, the second part of the instructions mentions the following:
-Wet the garment well (which must be clean), and place it inside the container with dye
-Move constantly for ten minutes to ensure an even dye
-Subsequently, you should allow approximately 45 minutes to elapse after soaking the garment and then rinse it in "ordinary water", until the excess dye stops being thrown away.
-You must dry the uniform in the shade, without squeezing it and then iron it, conclude the instructions
-Wash and dry the uniform
