To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the famous Honda Fireblade in 2022, the Japanese factory has decided to release a commemorative and limited model on the renewed current basis. It has been presented at the EICMA in Milan and has mechanical improvements to gain acceleration and traction.
Its commercial name will be Honda CBR1000RR-R SP Fireblade 30º Aniversario and it will carry the original colors that it debuted in 1992 thanks to the fact that its project has been entrusted to the original designer of the motorcycle, Mr. Hiroaki Tsukui.
Since its original introduction in 1992, Honda's iconic Fireblade has evolved into an incredible 1000cc sports bike. It has also been the basis of a competitive racing machine on short circuits around the world and on the roads of the Isle of Man TT.
2022 marks an important anniversary for Honda, and its Fireblade, as it marks 30 years in which it has proven to be a momentous sports machine that has marked an entire generation and that marked a change in thinking in the modern era of sporting. To celebrate these three decades, Honda has decided to release a special version called the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP 30th Anniversary, which will be available in Europe as a Limited Edition and will be immediately recognizable thanks to the colors it uses.
And it is that the tricolor paint design pays a faithful homage to the original, with the ultra-modern touch of the 2020 model fused with elements of the style of the 1992 machine. To carry it out, the original designer Mr. Hiroaki Tsukui, who has achieved a unique and emotional combination.
However, there are other details that distinguish it. When giving contact for example, there is a "ring of fire" animation while the screen loads. In addition, giving importance to the fact that it is an exclusive edition, the serial number of each motorcycle will be laser engraved on the upper triple clamp as well as the 30th anniversary logos (on the gas tank cover, the Smart Key remote and laser engraved on the Akrapovič muffler), giving the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP 30th Anniversary its own place in Honda history
To find out how this entire creation process has been carried out, Honda has released a series of videos on its YouTube channel where they explain step by step how the final version that we enjoy today has been reached. In addition, they not only interview the original designer of the bike's colors but also the now-retired Large Project Leader, Tadao Baba.
Mechanically, development of the 2022 Fireblade's 218PS inline-four has focused on acceleration and traction. To achieve this, both the airbox and the intakes have been reshaped to smooth the airflow. In addition, the intake ducts have been tuned to increase airflow speed, while the flow of exhaust gases to the catalytic converter (and the catalytic converter itself) have also been optimised. To gain acceleration, the rear crown of the transmission has added three teeth, now having 43.
Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) has also been optimised, thanks to input from HRC riders, ensuring more precise rear-wheel traction management, as well as throttle feel, which has reduced loading your spring to improve progressivity and response when opening throttle.
As for its chassis, a new material and surface finish for the Nissin front caliper pistons on the Fireblade improves braking performance and consistency in race conditions. The Fireblade SP's Öhlins Smart Electronic Control (SE-C) and Brembo equipment continue to offer top-notch suspension and braking, along with a newly optimized quickshifter.
In terms of electronic equipment, it continues to enjoy the 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that provides a precise calculation of squat and roll for even more precise control of the behavior of the bike. There is also no shortage of driving modes as well as other driving aids such as engine braking, HSTC, Anti-wheelie control, etc. To view all the information, it uses a 5-inch TFT screen, fully customizable. It also features Honda's Smart Key proximity key system.
Honda has not specified when it will reach dealerships or what price this variant will have, we are waiting for what it can announce in the future.
